What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

Core Beliefs

The following are the core beliefs of the Eastside Church of Christ, in Midwest City, Oklahoma, based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

God

There is one eternally existing God. He is the creator of all that exists, and is worthy of all glory and praise. He is perfect in love, power, holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom, justice, and mercy. He is unchangeable and therefore is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. His name, which He revealed in the Bible is YHWH (Yahweh).

Jesus

God has revealed himself to us through his son, Jesus Christ, who is the visible image of the invisible God. Jesus was born of a virgin, lived without sinning, and died on a cross for our sins. God raised him from the grave, to live again, forever, and He is the head of the church.

The Bible

The Bible is the inspired Word of God. It is God’s revelation of His history with mankind and His will for mankind. In the Bible, God gives us everything we need to please Him with our lives.

The Church

The Church is meant to be the visible body of Christ, sent into the world to glorify God and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ. The church is made up of God’s people who are not perfect, but whose purpose is to follow Jesus’ teachings and share his good news of grace and salvation to the world.

Mankind

Humans, both male and female, were created in God's image for His glory. Our purpose in life is to glorify God. We do this by studying the Bible, changing our lives to live the way He instructs, and sharing his good news of grace and salvation to the world.

Salvation

By grace, God offers, as a free gift, eternal life to all who follow Christ, by faith, as their Lord and Savior. Those who believe the Bible and choose to submit their lives to follow Jesus as Lord, will confess their need for forgiveness as sinners and their belief in God and Jesus, His Son. They will repent, changing their lives to live according to the Word of God. They will obey the commands of Christ and the apostles, and the example of Christ, by being baptized, immersed in water, a response to God from a good conscience. And they will strive to live faithfully as long as they shall live.

Ressurection

Jesus Christ was raised from the dead, and He is returning one day to claim his own, to live with God forever. His followers, who have died, will also rise again.
